Napa, CA (July 18, 2024) A terrible crash occurred in the evening of Wednesday, July 17 that resulted in a fatality.
California Highway Patrol was alerted to a crash around 11:13 p.m. that was located at the intersection of Highway 12 and Highway 29 in Napa County. Three vehicles were involved.
38-year-old Cesar Gomez Martinez was driving in a Volkswagen Golf south on Highway 29 approaching the intersection. The light was green. A 45-year-old Napa man was driving a GMC Sierra east on Airport Boulevard in a left turn lane. His light was red.
Meanwhile, a 66-year-old Missouri man was driving a Dodge Ram and towing an RV trailer west on Highway 12 where the light he was approaching was red. However, he ran the light at about 75 mph and crashed into the left side of the Volkswagen. This caused the Volkswagen to veer into a pole. The Dodge and the trailer then jackknifed into the eastbound lanes of Airport Boulevard, crashing into the GMC.
Tragically, Cesar Gomez Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the GMC suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital. The Dodge driver’s condition is unclear at this time.
