Lake Elsinore, CA (July 1, 2024) A tragedy occurred on Sunday, June 30, when a woman was killed in a violent traffic crash. It happened on Interstate 15 in Wildomar, a city in southwest Riverside County.
California Highway Patrol was notified of the accident shortly before 2 p.m. on Sunday. They responded to the scene on the southbound lanes of the Interstate 15 Freeway, just 1.5 miles south of Diamond Drive.
When authorities arrived at the scene, they found Maria Martinez Lomeli of Compton severely injured. The 74-year-old woman was rushed to Inland Valley Hospital in Wildomar, but tragically, she was pronounced dead no more than 40 minutes later.
According to reports, Lomeli was a rear-seat passenger in a 2004 Kia Sorrento. The driver was a 71-year-old man from Compton. He was driving at about 65 mph in the No. 2 lane when he lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons. He veered into the center median and the car flipped over, ejecting Lomeli. The driver and the front-seat passenger, a 66-year-old woman, were taken to the hospital. As of Monday, they are in stable condition.
