Newbury Park, CA (August 27, 2023) 2 people were injured in a crash early Saturday morning in Newbury Park, according to the California Highway Patrol. 1 person was arrested at the scene for driving under the influence of alcohol and causing the wreck.

California Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 12:45 a.m. on the Borchard Road off-ramp from northbound Highway 101. At the same time, a 28-year-old Oxnard woman was driving a black 2015 Mazda 3 the wrong way on the off-ramp. A Newbury Park man, 38, was exiting Highway 101 in a 2016 Ford Fusion.

Authorities said the exit makes a sharp turn before it connects to the highway. California Highway Patrol and the Ventura County Fire Department were called to the scene. Upon arrival they found both the Mazda and the Ford blocking the 2 right lanes of the freeway. They reported that both vehicles sustained major damage.

The driver of the Ford complained of pain in his right arm and leg. The woman driving the Mazda had an abrasion across her chest.

California Highway Patrol Investigators found that the woman, who had driven the wrong way, was under the influence of alcohol. She was arrested for suspicion of felony DUI and wrong-way driving offenses. She was booked into the Ventura County Jail with a $50,000 bail, according to jail records.
