Valley Center, CA (April 21, 2024) A tragic accident in Valley Center on Friday night left a community shocked and saddened. The fatal accident claimed the life of 19-year-old Miguel Angel Zuniga at the intersection of West Tribal Road and Valley Center Road. It all happened just before 8:20 p.m. and ended with the driver of the other vehicle being arrested for DUI, officers said.
It was a Friday evening in Valley Center as the 19-year-old Valley Center resident drove a white Toyota Camry east on West Tribal Road. At the same time, a 34-year-old man from Ranchita was heading south on Valley Center Road in a white Ford Expedition. The two vehicles entered the intersection at the same time and collided, according to police reports.
The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene with paramedics and found the two vehicles with major damage in the middle of the intersection. Glass and debris were thrown all over the intersection as well. Paramedics quickly checked the vehicles to see if anyone needed medical attention. Unfortunately, they found Zuniga inside the Toyota unresponsive. With heavy hearts, they pronounced him dead at the scene and called the coroner.
The driver of the Ford, identified as Fernando Porras Abrego, was uninjured in this collision. Officers determined that he was intoxicated and placed him under arrest. Abrego was booked into the Vista Detention Facility and faces several charges, including driving under the influence.
