Bakersfield, CA (October 9, 2024) Sadness and shock clouded the community of Bakersfield, following a rollover accident that claimed two people’s lives. The single-vehicle accident happened mere minutes after 5:00 p.m., at the intersection of Cottonwood Road and East Pacheco Road, according to reports.
A Dodge pickup was heading south on Cottonwood Road, at a high rate of speed. Witnesses told officers that the driver was driving recklessly and even passing other vehicles on the dirt shoulder of the road. Suddenly, the driver of the Dodge lost control and the pickup truck overturned. Reports indicated that both the driver and the passenger of the pickup truck were thrown as the vehicle rolled. Witnesses immediately began calling 911 to report the accident.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the damaged pickup truck, as well as the passenger and the driver. One of the occupants had been killed in the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. The other occupant had sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a hospital in the area to receive immediate medical attention. Unfortunately, the victim’s injuries were too severe and they succumbed to them. They were pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police officers investigated the scene and have determined that speeding, reckless driving and intoxication were all factors in this fatal Bakersfield collision.
