2 Killed, 2 Injured In Head-On Crash In Fresno County

2 injured in Santa Cruz DUI crash on the Murray Street Bridge

Fresno County, CA (September 17, 2023) 2 people were hospitalized following a head-on crash Friday night in Fresno County. According to the Fresno California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 10:15 p.m.

Officers were called to Highway 43 near Davis Avenue regarding a 2-vehicle accident. An 18-year-old male was driving south on Highway 43 in a Toyota Camry. A 15-year-old boy was riding in the front passenger seat and another 18-year-old was in the backseat.

They approached a slower-moving car and tried to pass it. They swerved to the left, crossing the double yellow line that indicates you do not pass. At the same time, a 57-year-old man was driving a Land Rover north on the same highway. The Land Rover was unable to avoid the Camry and they collided head-on.

The 18-year-old driver and the 15-year-old passenger both sustained life-threatening injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. The 18-year-old passenger and the driver of the Land Rover both suffered major injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Officers believe the 3 people in the Toyota were smoking Marijuana before the crash occurred. The 15-year-old wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
