Murrieta, CA (August 20, 2023) A 25-year-old man from Ramona has died and another was injured during a collision in Murrieta on Saturday afternoon. The California Highway Patrol said told City News Service that the accident occurred near the Temecula area.
The accident took place around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday on the southbound Temecula Valley (15) Freeway, north of California Oaks Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, Agustin Martinez, a 23-year-old man was driving a 2006 Honda Civic south on Interstate 15 at approximately 70-75 mph, north of California Oaks Road.

Martinez made an unsafe turn which caused him to lose control of the vehicle. The Honda swerved off the road and hit a dirt embankment. The passenger, a 25-year-old man, was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown to the backseat area of the Honda before the vehicle came to a stop on the right shoulder.
The California Highway Patrol and the Murrietta Fire Department both responded to the scene of the crash. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers said that Martinez is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs. He was taken to the Inland Valley Medical Center for treatment for moderate injuries.
