Sacramento, CA (October 8, 2024) Sadness blanketed the community of South Sacramento, following a deadly DUI collision. It all happened on Monday morning, October 7th, 2024, just before 1:00 a.m. The collision occurred at the intersection of Sunmeadow Drive and Franklin Boulevard and claimed one person’s life.
A sedan was entering the intersection of Sunmeadow Drive and Franklin Boulevard in Sacramento at approximately 12:52 a.m. An SUV entered the intersection at the same time, causing the two vehicles to collide. The accident sent debris and glass flying in all directions, covering the intersection.
Sirens filled the air and the dark sky was illuminated by flashing emergency lights. The Sacramento Police Department hurried to help anyone who had been injured in the accident. They found the driver of the sedan dead, and called for a coroner. With heavy hearts, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene and covered with a tarp, reports indicated. The driver of the SUV was found with injuries and taken to a local hospital for treatment. However, officers reported that they showed signs of intoxication. The driver was placed under arrest, according to reports.
Franklin Boulevard was closed until 7:15 a.m., as officers worked to investigate the accident. Tow trucks were called to remove both damaged vehicles and it took crews hours to clear the intersection of debris and glass.
