Anaheim, CA (October 23, 2024) The city of Anaheim is devastated following a senseless accident that claimed the life of 49-year-old Jessica Ferrino. She was walking on Tuesday evening, October 10th, 2024, when she was struck and killed by a DUI driver. The fatal collision occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m., near Anaheim Coves Trail and the Santa Ana River. The driver, 33-year-old Santa Ana resident, Raymundo Rangel, lost control at a 90 degree curve near Rio Vista Street and Wagner Avenue.
Jessica Ferrino, 49, decided to go for a walk on Tuesday evening, October 10th, as she had done so many times before. As she walked, a speeding silver Mercedes Benz sedan approached her. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Raymundo Rangel, was intoxicated as he barreled towards Ferrino. Video surveillance of the scene shows the vehicle approaching a sharp 90 degree curve, where the driver lost control. The vehicle slammed into a greenbelt and finally came to a stop in the riverbed, officers reported.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found Rangel and a passenger inside the vehicle. They were both taken to a local hospital to receive treatment. Officers had also determined that Rangel was intoxicated. As crews cleaned the scene, a man reported that his wife had been walking in the area and she had yet to return home. Sadly, officers found the woman, identified as Jessica Ferrino, in a nearby bush. She had been hit by Rangel’s vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers reported that Rangel was taken into custody and faces vehicular manslaughter charges and DUI charges.
