Las Vegas, NV (April 14, 2024) A woman lost her life in Las Vegas on Saturday morning, April 13th, because of a drunk driver, officers said. 23-year-old Natalie Villegas, from Creech Air Force Base, was tragically killed when she was rear-ended on the highway. The deadly collision took place on US 95 near Mile Marker 99 at approximately 7:00 a.m. The driver responsible, identified as 38-year-old Las Vegas resident, Hetsel Campos, was arrested for driving while under the influence, reports indicated.
Traffic moved along US 95 in Las Vegas just as it does every morning. Around 7:00 a.m., a drunk driver in a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse, left his lane and collided with another vehicle near mile marker 99. The impact caused both vehicles to go off the roadway where they ended up in a desert area. Both vehicles then rolled, reports indicated. Officers reported that the accident occurred roughly 10 miles northwest of the Las Vegas Valley. The two vehicles involved both sustained major damage in the accident.
The 911 call was received by the Nevada State Police who hurried to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the two vehicles on the side of US 95. Officers began diverting traffic to Paiute Way (Snow Mountain) on-ramp, so motorists could turn around.
Officers also checked the vehicles to see if anyone had been hurt during the collision. Sadly, they found Villegas in the vehicle that had been hit with fatal injuries. There was nothing paramedics could do. Natalie Villegas was pronounced dead at the scene and officers called the coroner.
The driver of the at fault vehicle demonstrated signs of intoxication and was arrested at the scene for suspected DUI, reports indicated. Campos was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center. He faces multiple charges following this deadly two-vehicle collision, including impaired driving.
Tow trucks had to be called to haul the damaged vehicles from the scene and crews worked as fast as they could to clear all the debris and glass from the roadway. Driving while intoxicated is not only dangerous, but it is always illegal. We, as drivers, all need to work to make the streets a safer place by protecting innocent lives. If you are too drunk to drive, then don’t.
