Pedestrian killed, Jesus Rodriguez arrested in Riverside DUI

James Elliot has been arrested for a hit-and-run DUI in Riverside that killed a male pedestrian.

RIVERSIDE, CA (NOVEMBER 6, 2023): A male pedestrian was struck and killed by a hit-and-run vehicle in Riverside Sunday afternoon, and the driver Jesus Rodriguez is in custody.

Riverside Police Sgt. James Elliot states that the incident was reported at 4:08 p.m. on Sunday at the intersection of University Avenue and Main Street. A Silver Honda Civic drove by Rodriguez was traveling eastbound on University Avenue when the vehicle struck the pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Rodriguez then fled the scene, but was located and arrested shortly after.

The victim was rushed to Riverside Community Hospital by paramedics, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at the facility. His name and age are pending release upon notification of his next of kin.

Sgt. Elliot reveals that Rodriguez was located in San Jancinto, and was found to be intoxicated upon his arrest.

Rodriguez has been held in custody for suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and felony hit and run, according to Elliot.

The Riverside Police Department urges anyone with information regarding this collision to contact them. They continue to investigate this hit-and-run involving Jesus Rodriguez.
