Petaluma, CA (August 22, 2023) Rafael Lopez-Perez, 44, was arrested Sunday night for suspicion of DUI after a hit-and-run, according to the Petaluma Police Department. Lopez-Perez fled the scene in a badly damaged vehicle.
The Petaluma Police Department said that collision occurred around 10:45 p.m. on Sunday, in the 100 block of Post Street. A witness told police officers that there was a crash, involving 2 vehicles, and a blue sedan drove away. The sedan was badly damaged, including the front, driver’s side tire, so the suspect was fleeing the scene at a slow speed.

According to Petaluma Police Officers, the damaged sedan left a trail of debris as it slowly tried to flee the scene. There was a trail of gouge marks that the police followed. They led authorities right to the suspect. Officers administered an alcohol test and discovered Lopez-Perez’s alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
Lopez-Perez was arrested on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run charges.
