Shane Bunn Killed In DUI Hit-And-Run Crash In Yuba County

19-year-old killed, 1 arrested for DUI in Valley Center crash.

Yuba County, CA (February 28, 2024) Sadness swept through the community of Yuba County on Monday as news spread that a coach was killed in a hit-and-run accident. 34-year-old Shane Bunn, a Marysville resident, was killed in a multi-vehicle collision by a suspected DUI driver, officers said. The suspect fled the scene following the deadly crash on Murphy Road.

Bunn was heading south on Feather River Road in a gray Honda CRV, authorities said. He passed two slower vehicles in front of him just before 8:00 p.m. As he was passing, a black Toyota Corolla, driven by Larry Lee Anderson Jr. attempted to pass all three vehicles, including Bunn who was still in the process of passing the other two vehicles. Officers said that Anderson was passing at a high rate of speed and ended up side-swiping a black BMW as well as a white Nissan Altima. Anderson then rear-ended the Honda that Bunn was driving. The force of the collision caused Bunn to lose control and his vehicle went down an embankment on the side of the road. He eventually slammed into a concrete wall at the bottom, according to authorities, before coming to a stop.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found the three damaged vehicles. Bunn did not survive the crash and was, sadly, pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. Shane Bunn was a father and a walk-on football coach at Lindhurst High School. His passing has left the community in shock.

Larry Lee Anderson Jr, 50, didn’t stop after hitting the three other vehicles. Instead, he drove away, leaving the mess he created behind. Police officers later found Anderson and placed him under arrest. He faces several charges, including second-degree murder, gross vehicular manslaughter as well as DUI and hit-and-run charges, officers reported.
