Lucerne Valley, CA (June 24, 2024) Grief covered the community of Lucerne Valley as news spread of a motorcyclist’s death on Thursday afternoon. 42-year-old Apple Valley resident, Kristina Kimsey, was hit head-on by a vehicle on Old Woman Springs Road (also Highway 247) on Thursday afternoon, June 20th. The fatal accident occurred just before 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Visalia Avenue.
It was Thursday evening in Lucerne Valley as Kimsey rode her 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on Highway 247. At the same time, a 2020 Toyota Corolla, driven by a 43-year-old Apple Valley man, was traveling south on the same highway. The driver of the Toyota decided to pass the slower vehicle in front of him and crossed the double yellow line, into oncoming traffic. He did so directly in the path of Kimsey and her motorcycle. The two vehicles collided, head-on, in the northbound lane of the highway. Reports indicated that the force from the collision sent Kimsey flying from her motorcycle.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and found Kimsey on the ground, motionless. Paramedics hurried to the victim’s side and found her unresponsive. They did everything they could to try and save her, however, her injuries were too severe. With heavy hearts, authorities pronounced Kimsey dead at the scene. Her motorcycle was completely smashed and destroyed in the accident and had to be hauled from the scene. The driver of the Toyota sustained minor injuries in the collision and was treated at the scene by paramedics, reports indicated.
Kristina Kimsey was a mother to three children, 20-year-old James, 18-year-old Sophia and 16-year-old Ethan. She was also a special education para-educator for Desert Knolls Schools for a while and was most recently working with the ACHIEVE program at Phoenix Academy. The family has created a GoFundMe account to help with memorial costs.
