Escondido, CA (August 28, 2023) A motorcycle rider died on Sunday afternoon following a police pursuit that ended in a collision in Escondido. The California Highway Patrol said it all started around noon when officers tried to pull over a motorcyclist for speeding.
The motorcycle rider didn’t stop, but instead led officers on a high speed chase. The Escondido Police Department said the motorcyclist, a 22-year-old man from Lake Elsinore, was speeding southbound on Interstate 15 at State Route 76. Instead of stopping, the motorcyclist sped off, leading officers on a high-speed chase down the freeway.

The motorcyclist led officers for a while, until he ran a red light on eastbound Washington Avenue at the Harding Street intersection. At the same time, a vehicle was traveling north on Harding Avenue at a green light. The motorcyclist sped through the intersection and collided with the vehicle’s front bumper.
Witnesses said the motorcyclist then lost control and was thrown from the motorcycle. His body then slammed into the front end of a westbound vehicle. Officers performed life-saving measures at the scene and the Escondido Fire Department Paramedics responded. They pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene.
The Escondido Police Traffic Unit is investigating this incident.
