Motorcyclist Injured In Ridgeview-Webstern Neighborhood, San Diego Collision

2 people injured in motorcycle accident in Lucerne Valley

San Diego, CA (August 5, 2023) A 25-year-old man, riding a motorcycle, was hit by a vehicle late Friday night, according to the San Diego Police Department. It all took place in the Ridgeview-Webstern neighborhood of San Diego, at around 11:22 p.m.

A 25-year-old man was riding a 2017 Yamaha motorcycle east on Home Avenue when he was hit by a 2011 Hyundai Tucson, driven by a 46-year-old woman. San Diego Police officers arrived at the 4600 block of Home Avenue where they found the collision. The Hyundai stopped in the bicycle lane, facing east, before making a U-turn. She did not see the motorcyclist and turned directly in front of him. Officer Robert Heims said the motorcyclist didn’t have time to stop and hit the Hyundai on the driver’s side front fender.

The 25-year-old motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital with multiple fractures and a laceration on his ankle, according to Heims. The female driver of the Hyundai, who wasn’t injured, remained at the scene and cooperated with the police. Investigators said that drugs and alcohol were not a factor in this accident. The department’s traffic division is investigating the collision.

Liability In San Diego Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcyclists have a naturally small profile and are more likely to be overlooked by other drivers. Many collisions are due to drivers that make dangerous lane changes. According to California Vehicle Code 22107, “No person shall turn a vehicle from a direct course or move right or left upon a roadway until such movement can be made with reasonable safety and then only after the giving of an appropriate signal in the manner provided in this chapter in the event any other vehicle may be affected by the movement.” There are a number of factors that could potentially contribute to a motorcycle accident including:

  • Speeding
  • Drunk driving
  • Driver distraction
  • Inclement weather

The family of any victim that died in a motorcycle accident may be able to seek aid through a wrongful death claim. Damages can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are. There are, however, statute of limitations associated with civil claims. Failing to act within the statute of limitations may result in a permanent forfeiture of your rights.
