Oakland, CA (November 9, 2023) A collision between a motorcycle and an SUV left one person dead and 5 others injured on Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities. The accident occurred around 3:15 p.m. on November 8th, on International Boulevard, near 39th Avenue in Oakland.
There is surveillance video of the accident that shows the motorcyclist speeding along International Boulevard before crashing into a light-colored SUV. The motorcyclist was thrown several feet from the motorcycle during the crash. The motorcycle then burst into flames and the motorcyclist, along with being ejected from the bike, also suffered severe burns.
Alex Esquivel owns a furniture store with his father and heard the collision. He said they ran outside with fire extinguishers to put out the flames on the motorcycle and the rider. “I just heard the crash and then people and kids screaming,” Esquivel said.

The motorcyclist was unconscious and on fire. Esquivel said they did everything they could to help him and told authorities that it was devastating to see a man on fire in the middle of the street.
30 seconds later, a motorcycle officer was at the scene. He had been in the area and saw the fire from a distance and headed towards the scene of the crash. Another witness said that everyone in the area was trying to help. A family was in the SUV and people were also trying to help them following the accident.
A mother, her 3 teenage children, and the driver occupied the SUV. Police officers said all 5 of them, as well as the motorcyclist were transported to hospitals for treatment. Sadly, the motorcyclist was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The occupants of the SUV were all treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police officers said that speed was a factor in this tragic collision.
