Jadahn Schaefer was killed in a motorcycle accident in San Diego.

Houston, TX (November 21, 2023) A motorcyclist was killed in a 4-vehicle collision on Highway 59 in Houston on Tuesday morning, according to authorities. It happened around 8:45 a.m. on southbound Highway 59 at Fondren Road.

A 20-year-old man was riding a blue Kawasaki motorcycle north on the highway. Witnesses said they saw the motorcycle weaving in and out of traffic at a high speed between the two right lanes when he crashed. He slammed into a black Honda Civiv and a gray Jeep Cherokee who were in front of him on Highway 59. The motorcyclist was thrown from his motorcycle and slammed into a Toyota Corolla.

Police officers and paramedics arrived at the scene and found the motorcyclist lying on the highway, not moving. Paramedics rushed to his side, ready to use life-saving measures, but found the man deceased. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Honda that was involved had two occupants who were complaining of back pain after the collision. Paramedics took them to a local hospital to be evaluated and treated for their injuries.

Offices had to close several northbound lanes of Highway 59 on Tuesday morning while crews cleaned glass and debris from the scene. The motorcycle had to be removed from the scene and investigators looked for evidence.

Officers aren’t exactly sure what happened on Highway 59 in Houston but they hope to determine if the motorcyclist just lost control or if reckless driving was, in fact, the cause of this fatal collision.

Liability In Houston Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcyclists have a naturally small profile and are more likely to be overlooked by other drivers. Many collisions are due to drivers that make dangerous lane changes. According to Texas Transportation Code 5450605, “No person shall turn a vehicle from a direct course or move right or left upon a roadway until such movement can be made with reasonable safety and then only after the giving of an appropriate signal in the manner provided in this chapter in the event any other vehicle may be affected by the movement.” There are a number of factors that could potentially contribute to a motorcycle accident including:

  • Speeding
  • Drunk driving
  • Driver distraction
  • Inclement weather

The family of any victim that died in a motorcycle accident may be able to seek aid through a wrongful death claim. Damages can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are. There are, however, statute of limitations associated with civil claims. Failing to act within the statute of limitations may result in a permanent forfeiture of your rights.
