Lakewood, CA (July 22, 2024) A tragic accident shook the community of Lakewood as News spread of an accident that claimed a person’s life on June 4. The collision occurred between a motorcycle and another vehicle on Carson Street, at the intersection of Ostrom Avenue, officers reported. It happened just after 6:00 p.m. on the border of Lakewood and Long Beach.
The Long Beach Police Department reported that the motorcyclist was on a 2022 Yamaha, traveling west on Carson Street. The vehicle traveling in front of the motorcyclist was driving at a slower speed, so the rider decided to change lanes and pass the slower vehicle. A 2007 Ford Edge was turning onto Carson Street from Ostrom Avenue as the motorcyclist changed lanes. The motorcycle slammed into the Ford, according to reports. The impact sent the rider flying from the motorcycle, causing them to land on the ground with life-threatening injuries.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene with sirens blaring and emergency lights flashing. They found the motorcyclist on the ground in serious condition, according to reports. The motorcycle was bent and busted, lying in a heap on the ground, several feet from the rider. Paramedics rushed to the rider’s side and began life-saving treatment. The motorcyclist was rushed to a local hospital where they did everything they could to save the rider’s life. Unfortunately, they succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead at the hospital.
Update: The motorcyclist has been identified as David Garcia of Downey. He was 41 years old.
Investigators are working to determine what exactly happened at that Lakewood intersection to cause such a tragic outcome. They are working to determine if drugs or alcohol were factors in this fatal accident, according to police reports. The Long Beach Police Department’s Collision Investigation Team is heading this investigation.
