RIVERSIDE, CA (July 7, 2022) – A motorcyclist was killed in a multi-vehicle crash involving a Tesla on the eastbound side of the 91 freeway in Riverside according to City News Service.
The crash occurred at around 4:50 a.m. west of Magnolia Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol. Officer Keith Ballantyne said that the victim, whose identity was not immediately released, was riding his Yamaha V-Star in the HOV lane when a Tesla Model Y approached from behind.
“At some point, a collision occurred involving the two vehicles,” Ballantyne said. “The rider of the Yamaha was ejected from the motorcycle.”
Information on the identity of the fatally injured person was not immediately available.
All eastbound freeway lanes were closed in the area while an investigation was conducted. A Sigalert was issued around 5 a.m. and as of 12:30 p.m. lane closures were still in effect and traffic was at a standstill.
No arrests were made, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this case.
Liability In Riverside Motorcycle Accidents
Motorcyclists have a naturally small profile and are more likely to be overlooked by other drivers. Many collisions are due to drivers that make dangerous lane changes. According to California Vehicle Code 22107, “No person shall turn a vehicle from a direct course or move right or left upon a roadway until such movement can be made with reasonable safety and then only after the giving of an appropriate signal in the manner provided in this chapter in the event any other vehicle may be affected by the movement.” There are a number of factors that could potentially contribute to a motorcycle accident including:
- Speeding
- Drunk driving
- Driver distraction
- Inclement weather
The family of any victim that died in a motorcycle accident may be able to seek aid through a wrongful death claim. Damages can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are. There are, however, statute of limitations associated with civil claims. Failing to act within the statute of limitations may result in a permanent forfeiture of your rights.
