Motorcyclist Killed In Willows Crash On Highway 32

A motorcyclist was killed in WIllows on Highway 32

Willows, CA (October 24, 2023) A 40-year-old motorcyclist from Orland was killed on Saturday night, October 21st in a crash on Highway 32 in Willows. According to California Highway Patrol Officers Rob Gardner, the collision occurred just before 8:30 p.m. about a quarter of a mile east of County Road O.

Officer Gardner said the man was riding a 2023 Honda motorcycle east on the shoulder of Highway 32 at a high rate of speed. The motorcyclist was passing vehicles on the shoulder of the road when a Subaru, that was headed west, turned into a driveway. The motorcycle collided with the right side of the Subaru, according to the Willows California Highway Patrol. A press release following the accident stated that the motorcyclist would not have been able to see the vehicle since it was speeding down the shoulder of the highway.

When the motorcycle collided with the Subaru, the rider was traveling at such a high speed that he was ejected from the motorcycle. Emergency crews arrived to find the man on the ground with fatal injuries. The Subaru was driven by a 49-year-old Jennifer Chua, a Chico resident. Three minors were also in the Subaru at the time of the collision, but no one inside the vehicle was injured in the crash.

Officers Gardner said they do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in this collision, but they do believe speed and reckless driving were factors.

Liability In Willows Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcyclists have a naturally small profile and are more likely to be overlooked by other drivers. Many collisions are due to drivers that make dangerous lane changes. According to California Vehicle Code 22107, “No person shall turn a vehicle from a direct course or move right or left upon a roadway until such movement can be made with reasonable safety and then only after the giving of an appropriate signal in the manner provided in this chapter in the event any other vehicle may be affected by the movement.” There are a number of factors that could potentially contribute to a motorcycle accident including:

  • Speeding
  • Drunk driving
  • Driver distraction
  • Inclement weather

The family of any victim that died in a motorcycle accident may be able to seek aid through a wrongful death claim. Damages can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are. There are, however, statute of limitations associated with civil claims. Failing to act within the statute of limitations may result in a permanent forfeiture of your rights.
