Garden Grove, CA (April 4, 2024) The community of Garden Grove was saddened following the death of a motorcyclist on Tuesday afternoon, April 2nd. 56-year-old Stephen Douglas Sanders lost his life when his motorcycle collided with a garbage truck. It all happened at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Western Avenue, according to reports.
Sanders, an Anaheim resident, was a 2023 Harley-Davidson motorcycle along Western Avenue at the same time as a garbage truck. In the 11700 block of Western Avenue, for reasons still unknown, the motorcycle and the garbage truck collided. The impact sent Sanders flying off his motorcycle and landing in the roadway.

Emergency personnel hurried to the scene and found the motorcycle, badly damaged, lying on the ground. Several feet from the motorcycle was Sanders, motionless. Paramedics rushed to his side and gave Sanders life-saving measures as they loaded him into an ambulance and rushed him to a nearby hospital. The medical staff did everything they could to save Sanders, but his injuries were too extensive. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The driver of the garbage truck remained at the scene and cooperated with police officers during their investigation. The motorcycle that Sanders was riding had to be hauled away from the scene and crews cleaned up the debris that was left behind. Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in this fatal collision. They continue to investigate in an effort to determine what exactly happened and who was at fault
