San Diego, CA (May 11, 2024) The Allied Gardens area community in San Diego was left in shock on Friday evening as news spread of a child being struck by a vehicle. A 10-year-old girl was running across a street when she was struck by a vehicle on Glenroy Street. The accident happened just after 5:00 p.m. and left the girl with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
It was early evening on Friday, May 10th, as a gray Chevrolet Suburban headed south on Glenroy Street. The 51-year-old woman behind the wheel was startled when a 10-year-old girl suddenly ran across the street right in front of her, heading west. The woman driving the Suburban had no time to react and hit the girl. The force knocked the girl down, hard, on the ground.
The San Diego Police Department hurried to the scene in the 6700 block of Glenroy Street and found the girl on the ground, scared and injured. Paramedics rushed to her side and found the girl had an open fracture on her left ankle as well as several abrasions. The child was loaded into an ambulance and taken to a local hospital to receive treatment.
Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in this collision and took statements at the scene. The San Diego Police Department Division is leading this investigation and are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
