13-Year-Old Boy Struck, Injured By Hit-And-Run Driver In Redding

Pedestrian struck and killed in Salinas.

Redding, CA (March 14, 2024) The community was left in disbelief on Wednesday evening as word spread of a 13-year-old boy being struck by a hit-and-run driver. Officers reported that the accident occurred on Highway 44 at Victor Avenue around 3:30 p.m. The driver who hit the child then fled the scene, according to authorities.

It was a Wednesday afternoon in the town of Redding as a 13-year-old boy walked along the shoulder of Highway 44. A vehicle was driving down the Highway when, for reasons still unknown, the vehicle hit the boy. Instead of stopping, the driver of the vehicle in question hit the gas and fled the scene, leaving the boy with serious injuries.

Emergency crews later arrived at the scene and found the boy on the side of the road with serious injuries. Officers called for a medical helicopter and the boy was flown to U.C. Davis Medical Center to receive treatment for serious injuries and remains in critical condition.

The Redding Police Department is leading the investigation and is determined to find the driver responsible and bring him or her to justice. Leaving the scene after hitting someone is illegal and inhumane. We must do better, as drivers, to make the roads safer.
