Pedestrian Struck, Injured During Street Race Crash In Salinas

Pedestrian injured, 19-year-old arrested after street racing in Salinas.

Salinas, CA (March 13, 2024) An innocent bystander was seriously injured on Monday night due to the negligence of a street race, according to officers. The 41-year-old male pedestrian was struck at approximately 8:30 p.m. on March 11th by a Dodge Charger that had lost control on East Market Street.

The chaos occurred behind the Steinbeck Center, authorities said. Two vehicles were street racing when one of the drivers, a 19-year-old, lost control of his Dodge Charger. He was traveling at such a high rate of speed that the vehicle flipped and went onto the sidewalk, where the pedestrian was standing. The force of the impact from the vehicle knocked the pedestrian onto the ground.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found the Charger upside down on the sidewalk. Paramedics rushed to the 41-year-old pedestrian and discovered he had sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. They were transported to a local hospital to receive treatment, but are expected to make a full recovery.

The 19-year-old driver of the Dodge Charger who was street racing was arrested at the scene, officers said. He was booked into the Monterey County Jail and faces reckless driving chargers.
