Orange County, CA (May 27, 2024) The neighborhood of Balboa Peninsula was left in shock following a devastating accident that claimed the life of a 14-year-old girl. The horrible collision took place in Newport Beach on Saturday night, May 25th, just after 6:45 p.m. A driver who was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, struck the girl, as she walked, claiming her life.
About one block from the Balboa Fun Zone, a deadly accident transpired, leaving a community in mourning. A 14-year-old girl was walking near the intersection of Palm Street and Balboa Boulevard as a vehicle approached, according to reports. The driver of the vehicle, 30-year-old Joseph Alcazar from Fontana, was under the influence of alcohol and struck the girl with his vehicle, reports indicated.
Emergency personnel hurried to the scene and found the girl on the ground, unresponsive. Paramedics rushed to her side and began administering life-saving measures, but it was too late. She had succumbed to her wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene and officers called for a coroner.
Alcazar had stopped his vehicle and remained at the scene in an attempt to cooperate with authorities. Officers spoke with him and noticed he seemed to be under the influence of alcohol. Officers arrested him at the scene and he faces charges of homicide by traffic fatality as well as child cruelty charges.
