Antoinette Matthews Struck & Killed In Oakland By Driver Doing Doughnuts

Antoinette Matthews struck and killed on an Oakland sidewalk.

Oakland, CA (January 4, 2023) Word of a pedestrian who was struck and killed while innocently walking on the sidewalk, spread quickly through Oakland on New Year’s Day. Antoinette Matthews, a 23-year-old Stockton resident, was identified as the victim by authorities.

The Oakland Police Department reported that Matthews was walking on the sidewalk on the 4200 block of International Boulevard at approximately 12:45 a.m. A vehicle began doing doughnuts in the street near Matthews and the car went over the curb and up onto the sidewalk, where it struck Matthews, officers said.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and found Matthews in critical condition on the sidewalk. They rushed her to a local hospital for treatment, but she sadly succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Officers said the driver of the vehicle immediately fled the scene following this collision, leaving Matthews injured and alone on the sidewalk. The Oakland Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating this fatal collision. They are determined to figure out who the suspect is and bring them to justice.
