San Diego County, CA (March 8, 2024) A grim scene unfolded on South Melrose Drive in San Diego County when a bicyclist was struck by not one, but two vehicles. The first driver stopped but the second one fled the scene, officers said, leaving the bicyclist with life-threatening injuries. It all happened around 10:28 p.m. at the intersection of Buena Vista Drive.
The bicyclist was riding through Vista on Thursday, March 7th, when a vehicle approached and accidentally hit them. The driver of the vehicle immediately pulled over after hitting the bicyclist, officers said. Before anyone could react, a second vehicle approached the scene and also hit the bicyclist. The driver of the second vehicle, described as a white SUV, did not stop, but continued driving, leaving the bicyclist with life-threatening injuries.

The night sky was filled with flashing lights as the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene along with paramedics. They rushed to the bicyclist’s side, but sadly discovered that they had already passed away from their injuries. With heavy hearts, they declared the bicyclist dead at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Department searched the scene for evidence and even spoke with the first driver who remained at the scene. They are determined to find the second vehicle that struck the bicyclist and fled, officers said.
