Bus Stop Crash In Las Vegas Valley Claimed Lives Of Robert Higgins, Erik Higgins, Injured 3

2 killed and 3 injured at bus stop in East Las Vegas Valley.

Las Vegas, NV (April 18, 2024) A community is still in shock this morning following a wrong-way crash in the east Las Vegas Valley that killed two, one being a child, on Wednesday evening. 42-year-old Robert Higgins and his 14-year-old son, Erik Higgins, were both killed in this awful crash. Higgins’ wife, Amber was seriously injured and remains in a coma at University Medical Center, officers said. The couple’s 11-year-old daughter, Isabella, and their 8-year-old son, Roman, were both seriously injured. This tragic accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Boulder Highway near Sahara Avenue when a wrong-way vehicle crashed into a bus stop.

A group of people waited for the bus at the bus stop on Boulder Highway in the east Las Vegas Valley on Wednesday evening. Vehicles drove past the bus stop just as they do every day. Suddenly, a white four-door sedan approached, heading north in the southbound lane. With no warning and no time to react, the car veered towards the bus stop and hit five people. Three of the victims hit were children, officers said, the other two were adults.

The Las Vegas Police Department hurried to the scene and found five people on the ground near the bus stop. Two of them, later identified as Robert Higgins and Erik Higgins, were not moving and looked as if they had taken the blunt of the collision. The car sat near the scene, its driver nervously waiting. Paramedics rushed to Robert and Erik Higgins who weren’t moving, and were ready to give them life-saving aid. Unfortunately, they succumbed to their injuries and both Robert Higgins and Erik Higgins were pronounced dead at the scene.

Three others, identified as Amber Higgins and two of her children, Isabella and Roman, were seriously injured in this accident. The two children had to be pulled out from under the vehicle, officers said. Roman had sustained three broken ribs, a broken pelvis and a lacerated spleen. They were taken to a local hospital, via ambulance, to receive treatment for serious injuries. Amber Higgins remains in a coma, officers reported.

The driver of the vehicle responsible, identified as 64-year-old Cynthia Phelps, was detained and then sent to a hospital to receive treatment for mild to moderate injuries. Officers believe that speed and possibly drugs or alcohol played a role in this fatal collision in the East Las Vegas Valley. After investigating the accident, officers determined that Phelps had hit the bus stop at a speed of at least 65 miles per hour.
