Bakersfield, CA (July 9, 2024)
A tragic fatality occurred on the Fourth of July in Bakersfield.
A man named Chad Anthony Jacques was standing in the center divider of 24th Street and Oak Street that night at around 8:40 p.m. Then, a vehicle heading north on Oak Street attempted to turn east.
The driver of the car ran over the center divider, striking Jacques in the process. The vehicle then crashed into four more cars on westbound 24th Street.
When authorities and paramedics arrived at the scene, they were sadly unable to save Jacques. He was 48 years old.
The driver, a 33-year-old, was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury.
