PERRIS, CA (October 20, 2022) – A 34-year-old woman identified as Diana Aguirre, 34, was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on Highway 74 in Perris, prompting the California Highway Patrol today to ask for the public’s help in identifying the motorist.
Diana Aguirre of Perris was fatally injured about 5:50 p.m. Wednesday while trying to cross the highway at Ethanac Road, according to the CHP.
Officer Mike Lassig said Aguirre was attempting to cross from north to south on the four-lane corridor when a man at the wheel of a silver Honda Accord approached from the east, heading westbound at an undetermined speed.
“The driver of the Honda failed to stop for the pedestrian in the roadway, causing the Honda’s front end to collide into the pedestrian’s left side while she was walking in the No. 2 lane,” Lassig said. “The victim was thrown up into the Honda’s windshield and came to rest in the westbound No. 1 lane.”
He said that the driver fled the scene, possibly exiting the highway at an unknown location.
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics reached the scene minutes later and pronounced Diana Aguirre dead on the highway.
There is no marked crosswalk at the point where the victim attempted to cross.
The vehicle was likely a 2008 to 2012 model Honda Accord.
“It should have major damage to the front end and is missing the front bumper,” Lassig said. “The Honda should have significant windshield damage, too.”
Anyone who may have information was urged to contact the CHP’s Temecula office at 951-506-2000.
