FRESNO COUNTY, CA (AUGUST 26, 2023): 59-year-old Fred Leon Black, Jr was struck and killed by a vehicle while attempting to cross the street in his wheelchair in Fresno County.
The Fresno Police Department responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a car in the area of Blackstone and Henderson Avenue late Friday evening.

Authorities report that Black, believed to be unhoused, attempted to cross Blackstone Avenue from the west side using the turn pockets to get into the northbound lanes. As Black crossed the northbound lanes, he was struck be a vehicle that police say maintained the right-of-way.
Fed Leon Black, Jr was then transported to an area hospital where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. The Fresno Police Department continues to investigate this collision involving Black on Blackstone Avenue.
