Mead Valley, CA (April 9, 2024) Sadness fell over the community of Mead Valley on Monday, April 8th, as news of a pedestrian death spread. 37-year-old Alfred Aparicio was walking on Cajalco Road when he was hit and killed by a vehicle that fled the scene. Officers reported that the fatal accident took place sometime between 3:15 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.
It was early morning in Mead Valley as Aparicio headed down Cajalco Road. He was near Decker Road as a vehicle approached and, without warning, the vehicle hit him. The force of the impact knocked Aparicio onto the side of the road. The driver didn’t stop, but instead, hit the gas and fled the scene, leaving the pedestrian behind with life-threatening injuries.
Officers aren’t certain how long Aparicio laid there following the collision. Eventually, a vehicle drove by and the driver noticed the pedestrian lying on the side of the road. Officer Javier Navarro said that the driver pulled over and called 911.
The California Highway Patrol was the first on the scene. They found the Aparicio lying on the side of the road, unresponsive. Unfortunately, paramedics weren’t needed and instead, officers called the coroner. Sadly, Aparicio was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Riverside California Highway Patrol Office is leading the investigation into this deadly accident. Anyone who has any information regarding this accident is encouraged to contact the police. Officers are working diligently to figure out what vehicle hit the pedestrian and who was behind the wheel. As drivers, we have a legal obligation to look out for pedestrians.
