(Bakersfield, CA) Police suspected a 35-year-old man in a deadly hit-and-run crash that left John Dwayne Ross dead and another injured in Bakersfield.
On Wednesday, April 23, the Bakersfield Police Department received emergency calls regarding a hit-and-run incident on the 4200 block of Chester Avenue, not far from the Chester Avenue bridge.
When police questioned witnesses, they told officers a driver had struck two pedestrians before fleeing the scene. When officers arrived at the crash site, they found John Dwayne Ross, 48, on the southbound sidewalk with severe injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, first responders pronounced Ross dead at the scene. Police also found another man nearby who sustained minor injuries after being struck by debris.
In the hours following the collision, investigators located a camera system on the 500 block of McCord Avenue in Oildale that captured footage of the hit-and-run driver. Officers identified the driver as Bobby Lemons, 35, and arrested him in connection with the fatal hit-and-run. Charges are currently pending.
