Chowchilla, CA (August 29, 2023) A man was killed on Monday evening when a train in Chowchilla hit him, according to the Chowchilla Police Department. Officers received the call of a train that reportedly hit a man around 6:45 p.m. on Monday.

The collision happened near Robertson Avenue and Kings Avenue. Upon investigating the accident, officers discovered that the pedestrian was actually trying to beat the train, but didn’t make it across the tracks in time. The train hit the pedestrian, a Chowchilla resident, killing him.
Chowchilla Police Department said that train was a Union Pacific and it was traveling at 70 mph when it hit the pedestrian. The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene.
