Man Struck & Killed By Vehicle While Lying In Brea Street

Pedestrian struck and killed by hit-and-run driver in Bakersfield.

Brea, CA (January 22, 2024) A man was struck and killed by a vehicle in Brea after lying in the middle of the street, officers reported. It happened at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 19th, on the Imperial Highway.

This story actually begins with a phone call. The Brea Police Department received a call from a concerned citizen stating that a man was acting erratically. Officers decided to perform a welfare check and headed to the intersection of Imperial Highway and Puente Street. The Brea Police Department even posted on X (formally Twitter) that they had received a call about a man “lying down in lanes of traffic.”

Mere minutes later, another call came through. This time, a different person had called to tell officers that someone was hit by a vehicle.

Officers found the man, said to be in his 30s, lying in the roadway with life-threatening injuries, authorities said. Unfortunately, the man was pronounced dead at the scene moments later. The vehicle that hit the man remained at the scene and cooperated with police officers.

The Brea Police Department reported that the pedestrian had been “acting erratically” before lying down in the middle of the roadway, where he was eventually struck by a vehicle.
