Fresno, CA (October 20, 2024) The community of Fresno is mourning the loss of two sisters who were killed by a vehicle on Wednesday, October 16th, 2024. 25-year-old Mang Yang and 18-year-old Eliza Yang both lost their lives. The vehicle, driven by an 18-year-old gang member who was fleeing Police officers, crashed into the sisters’ bedroom.
The story begins with gang member Adam Canales, 18, fled police officers in a white Chevy Tahoe. He ran a stop sign and crashed near Cedar Avenue, hitting a fence and slamming into the bedroom of a residential home. Sadly, the two sisters, Mang and Eliza Yang, were both inside the room at the time of the collision. Reports indicated that Canale got out of the Chevy and continued fleeing on foot. A helicopter found the suspect on E. Ball Avenue and he was arrested. Officers booked the young man into Fresno County Jail.
At the same time, emergency personnel arrived at the house and sadly found that the two woman inside had been killed in the collision. The sisters’ bodies were removed from the family home by a coroner as a devastated neighborhood watched. The Tahoe had to be removed from the scene and more than just structural damage was left behind.
The sisters’ brother, Mao Yang, set up a GoFundMe account to help the family with costs to bury his sisters. A vigil was held in the neighborhood, as neighbors and loved ones gathered around the sisters’ parents. As the parents sat near the lit candles, they listened as people shared stories and prayers.
Our hearts go out to the family of Mang and Eliza Yang following this senseless and tragic accident.
