(Monterey Park, CA) A 47-year-old man named Manuel Gonzalez was tragically struck and killed by a vehicle while walking on the 10 Freeway connector road in Monterey Park.

The devastating crash occurred around 11:08 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29.

CHP units were called to the eastbound 10 Freeway and the connector road to the 710 Freeway, where they learned Manuel Gonzalez had been walking in a construction zone in the middle lanes of the freeway connector. It was then that he was struck by a dark colored vehicle.

California Highway Patrol reported that the victim was struck by multiple vehicles and tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

It’s unclear at this time if the driver who struck Gonzalez remained at the scene.

We at Accident News Now extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family of the victim. We know this is an extremely difficult time as you mourn this sudden and devastating loss. Liability in a Monterey Park Car Accident

California has strict laws when it comes to pedestrians. It’s important to always stop if you have struck a person on foot. Further, the driver of a vehicle that hits a pedestrian can be held liable for negligence if they were somehow impaired during the incident. Authorities consider a variety of factors when determining if negligence played a role in a crash, including:

–Distractions like talking on the phone, texting, engaging with passengers

    –Extreme fatigue

–Being under the influence of drugs or alcohol

    –Speeding

    –Aggressive or reckless driving

Because the driver in this accident remained at the scene and was not found to be impaired, they may not be found liable for this tragic event. This is especially true because the pedestrian stepped into the vehicle’s path. However, the nuances of pedestrian laws could be used to find the driver partially responsible.

Always look out for pedestrians when driving, and as a pedestrian, make sure to pay close attention to vehicles at all times.
