Michelle Dalton & Her Dog Killed On Highway 246 In Santa Ynez

A man was walking his dog in Rehnert Park when they were both struck and killed by a vehicle.

Santa Ynez, CA (December 6, 2023) Michelle Dalton, 59, and her small dog were struck and killed by a passing vehicle on Highway 246 in Santa Ynez, officers said. It happened just before 5:30 a.m., west of Via Juana Road, near the Chumash Reservation.

This tragic accident reportedly happened on Saturday, December 2nd, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department said. Dalton was with her small dog on the highway, when they were both struck by a passing vehicle.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found both Dalton and the dog lying on the ground. They rushed to perform life-saving measures but Datlon was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Her small dog was also killed in the collision.

Officers closed Highway 246 for nearly four hours following the collision so they could investigate the scene and try to determine exactly what happened. The Santa Barbara County Fire Department stated that they are not sure if the woman was on the highway or walking on the shoulder of Highway 246. Investigators hope to learn who was at fault and what led to this tragic accident in Santa Ynez.
