As the pedestrian walked, a vehicle approached and struck the pedestrian. The force knocked the pedestrian to the ground and left them with life-threatening injuries, reports indicated. Instead of stopping and calling for help, the driver of the vehicle hit the gas and sped away from the scene, leaving the pedestrian dying and alone.

By the time authorities arrived, the pedestrian was in bad shape. Officers with the Antioch Police Department performed CPR on the victim in an effort to save their life as they waited for paramedics. The Contra Costa County Fire and American Medical Response crews arrived at the scene and rushed to give the victim life-saving treatment. Paramedics did everything they could, but the victim’s injuries were too severe and officers said he died at the scene that night. Officers placed a tarp over the victim and pronounced him dead at the scene, reports indicated.
