Santa Ana, CA (February 20, 2024) A wave of sadness swept over Santa Ana on Saturday morning following the violent death of a pedestrian. The tragedy took place right at 4:30 a.m. when a vehicle struck a pedestrian, leaving them with fatal injuries. The driver of the vehicle was heading down Orange Street when he pulled over because he felt as if he had driven over something in the road.
The Santa Ana Police Department, as well as the Fire Department, arrived at the scene but didn’t immediately see a pedestrian. Detective Sgt. Richard Shin said the driver told them that he thought he had hit something. Shin said, “When he exited the vehicle, the driver discovered a pedestrian was trapped underneath his vehicle.” Emergency crews worked fast and carefully to free the pedestrian who was, in fact, trapped under the vehicle.
Paramedics quickly began life-saving measures on the pedestrian but even with efforts, the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries. With heavy hearts, paramedics stopped treatment and they pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.
The driver cooperated with police officers during their investigation of the accident. Detective Sgt. Shin is asking for anyone with information about this fatal accident to contact the police departments Traffic Division.
