San Mateo, CA (September 21, 2023) A pedestrian was killed on Wednesday night, September 20, 2023, when they were hit by a California Highway Patrol officer. Officers confirmed the accident occurred around 10:00 p.m. in San Mateo.

Reports indicate that the officer was driving a white marked patrol car east on Highway 92 at Delaware Street. Suddenly, the pedestrian ran across the road right in front of the officer’s patrol car. The officer didn’t have time to stop or avoid the pedestrian and struck them.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
