Pedestrian Killed By Hit-and-Run DUI Driver In San Diego

San Diego, CA (September 12, 2024) A pedestrian was killed by a DUI driver who fled the scene in Old Town, San Diego, on Wednesday morning, September 11th, 2024. The pedestrian was found on Interstate 5 around 12:30 a.m., officers reported. The driver responsible was later found and arrested.

Reports indicated that 911 calls began coming in around 12:30 a.m., reporting a body on the interstate. Officers with the California Highway Patrol made their way to southbound I-5, not far from Old Town Avenue, and found pedestrian lying in the middle of the freeway. Officers said it was obvious the person had been hit by a vehicle, however no one else was around. Sadly, they pronounced the victim dead at the scene and requested a coroner.

Shortly after, officers stopped a white Volkswagen that had a caved in windshield. They determined that the driver was the one responsible for hitting the pedestrian. They also determined that the driver was intoxicated. They were placed under arrest and a tow truck came to remove the Volkswagen, reports indicated. Officers are working to determine what exactly happened on that stretch of Interstate 5.
