East Los Angeles, CA (May 8, 2024) Tuesday, May 7th, ended with a tragedy in East Los Angeles following a hit-and-run accident. The collision claimed the life 42-year-old Jazmin Castillo, just before 11:00 p.m., according to reports. It all transpired near the intersection of Olympic Boulevard and Atlantic Boulevard. The hit-and-run driver was caught and arrested, officers reported.
It was just before 11:00 p.m. in East Los Angeles as Snowmass Village, Colorado resident walked through an East Los Angeles neighborhood. As they walked, they were suddenly struck by a red Toyota Celica, according to police reports. The impact from the collision threw Castillo several feet before she landed with a crash on the ground. The driver of the Toyota hit the gas and fled the scene, leaving Jazmin Castillo with life-threatening injuries.
The California Highway Patrol hurried to the scene and found Castillo lying on the ground with critical injuries. They were ready to begin life-saving measures but, sadly, the she had already succumbed to her injuries. Officer Sergio Garcia with the CHP told City News Service that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers were later able to locate the Toyota in the Commerce Casino parking lot at 6131 Telegraph Road. In doing so, they also found the driver responsible for the hit-and-run. The suspect was placed under arrest and taken into custody. They face multiple charges, according to reports.
