Norwalk, CA (July 31, 2024) A tragic accident occurred in Norwalk early this morning, claiming a pedestrian’s life. It started with a multi-vehicle collision on the San Gabriel (605) River Freeway in Norwalk. A pedestrian was walking in the area and was struck and killed, officers reported. It happened around 1:46 a.m. at the Rosecrans Avenue exit.
Most would call 1:46 a.m. the middle of the night. A pedestrian walked along the San Gabriel (605) River Freeway in the dark on that early summer morning in Norwalk. As they walked, a multi-vehicle collision occurred on the freeway near them. The force sent one of the vehicles careening towards the pedestrian, striking them. The force threw the pedestrian on the ground, where they remained, motionless.
Officers Sean Lough with the California Highway Patrol told City News Service that they arrived to find a Tahoe with major damage stopped near the pedestrian. The Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived at the scene as well. Paramedics hurried the pedestrian’s side, ready to give life-saving treatment. Unfortunately, the pedestrian had sustained fatal injuries in the accident and, with heavy hearts, authorities pronounced them dead at the scene.
Update: The victim has been identified as Charles Nicgorski.

Officers gathered all of the evidence they could find and took statements from those involved in the multi-vehicle collision on the (605) Riverside. They are working to determine what happened to cause this multi-vehicle accident that killed a pedestrian. They are also hoping to determine who was at fault. During the investigation, officers had to divert traffic away from the scene, sending them to the Imperial Highway exit.
