Sacramento, CA (July 29, 2024) A tragic pedestrian accident occurred in North Sacramento on Thursday night, July 25th. Sadly, the accident claimed the pedestrian’s life, officers reported. It happened on Interstate 80, not far from the Raley Boulevard North on-ramp. It was just before 9:30 p.m. when the tragedy unfolded.
A Subaru Forester SUV was heading west on Interstate 80 as a pedestrian was walking along the same stretch of freeway. Officers are still unsure what caused this horrible accident, but the vehicle struck the pedestrian. The force from the impact sent the pedestrian flying onto the right shoulder of the freeway. The Subaru immediately pulled over and called 911, reports indicated. The vehicle had struck the pedestrian with such force that the vehicle had sustained major damage.
Officers with the California Highway Patrol were the first to arrive at the scene. They saw the damaged SUV and then found the pedestrian on the ground on the side of Interstate 80. The victim had sustained life-threatening injures and officers quickly administered life-saving measures as they waited for paramedics to arrive. Unfortunately, the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers took a statement from the driver of the Subaru and gathered as much evidence as the could find at the scene. They requested a tow truck to come remove the damaged Subaru and remove the debris that had been left behind on the roadway. Officers are determined to understand what happened on Interstate 80 that caused this pedestrian to lose their life.
