Pedestrian struck and killed on Interstate 5 in San Diego.

Reno, NV (September 4, 2024) A tragic accident occurred on Interstate 80 in Reno on Monday night, September 2nd, 2024. A pedestrian was struck and killed by a tow truck while walking along the freeway. It happened at approximately 10:00 p.m., near Sparks Boulevard.

Drivers headed along the freeway in the dark on Monday night. Headlights illuminated their way while streetlights overhead sent a yellow glow over the roadway. A tow truck was heading east on Interstate 80 when, around 10:00 p.m., the driver suddenly noticed a pedestrian on the freeway. There was no time to stop or swerve and the tow truck hit the pedestrian. The driver of the tow truck immediately stopped and called 911.

The Nevada Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found the tow truck stopped, waiting for them. The pedestrian was on the ground, unresponsive. Emergency personnel began life-saving measures, but the victim had succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers took statements at the scene and are working to determine what exactly happened that night on Interstate 80. They are also working to understand why the pedestrian was walking within the freeway lanes.
