Bakersfield, CA (August 27, 2024) A pedestrian lost their life on Saturday night, August 24th, 2024, at a Bakersfield intersection. It happened as the pedestrian crossed South Union Avenue around 8:40 p.m. and was struck and killed by a vehicle, officers reported.
A white Honda SUV was driving south on South Union Avenue on Saturday evening. As the SUV headed through the 6500 block, and entered the intersection, the driver didn’t slow down, as they had a green light. Suddenly, a man attempted to cross the street directly in front of the SUV, according to reports. The SUV struck the man, knocking him violently to the ground. The driver of the vehicle immediately stopped and waited for police officers.
Paramedics arrived and rushed to the pedestrian’s side, ready to give him medical aid. They did everything they could, but the pedestrian later died from his injuries, according to authorities. Officers said the driver of the vehicle was cooperative during their investigation. They believe the man was walking west across the southbound lanes at the time of the accident.
