Mecca, CA (February 14, 2024) Emergency vehicles covered Lincoln Street in Mecca this afternoon, following a collision, officers said. A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle just before 1:00 p.m. and was critically injured and resulted in the closure of Lincoln Street.
A pedestrian was on Lincoln Street on Wednesday, February 14th, when they were suddenly struck by a gray Toyota Camry, officers reported. The awful accident occurred between 64th Avenue and Hammond Road.
Sirens wailed as emergency crews hurried to Lincoln Street following the 911 call about a collision involving a pedestrian. Brakes squealed and emergency lights flashed as the Riverside County Fire Department and the Riverside Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene. They rushed to the pedestrian, who was lying on the ground with serious injuries. Paramedics began giving medical aid to the pedestrian as officers closed the street, diverting traffic away from the accident.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities following this terrible accident. Officers are not sure, at this time, if drugs or alcohol were factors in this pedestrian collision in Mecca.
An airship responded to the scene and the pedestrian was quickly transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, authorities said. Sadly, the pedestrian didn’t survive and was pronounced dead either at the hospital or on the way to the hospital.
Officers are investigating this accident to determine what caused the car to hit the pedestrian on Lincoln Street and who was at fault. Drivers have a legal obligation to watch out for pedestrians and try to make the roads safer for them.
