Redlands, CA (April 2, 2024) A tragic pedestrian accident rocked the community of Redlands on March 13th. It was early morning, before the sun rose, when 41-year-old Colton resident, Ruben Angel Rodriguez, was struck and killed by a vehicle. The fatal accident took place at the intersection of California Street and San Bernardino Avenue right at 5:00 in the morning, officers said.
Early morning darkness covered California as the world waited for the sun to rise. 41-year-old Rodriguez was walking in the Northwest Redlands area, officers reported. As he walked, vehicles passed him, until one vehicle, for reasons still unknown, struck the pedestrian right at 5:00 a.m. The force from the impact threw Rodriguez several feet where he landed, hard, on the roadway. He remained on the ground with life-threatening injuries, according to police officers.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found Rodriguez lying on the ground with very serious injuries. Paramedics began life-saving measures and Rodriguez was rushed to Loma Linda University Medical Center by ambulance to receive treatment. The medical team at the hospital did everything they could to save Rodriguez, but his injuries were too severe. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the hospital just after 5:30 a.m.
Investigators with the Redlands Police Department worked the scene and gathered evidence. They are determined to learn what caused this fatal accident in Redlands. As of now, the case remains under investigation.
